Launch of Football Memories website

For those of us who believe that there is good left in a sport that employs Sepp Blatter, the launch of Alzheimer Scotland’s Football Memories website is a fillip.

I’ve known about the project itself for a while: with extraordinary results, Alzheimer Scotland’s volunteers use old football images and stories to ignite the imaginations of sufferers. That, my friends, is what football is for.

Their new project website is an ever so slightly brilliant way in which to lose hours. It is, too, a growing record of social history and a chance for me to write about Juninho. Best of all, anyone and everyone is now invited to submit their memories.

The website is at www.footballmemories.org.uk, and my own entry here: In Juninho we trusted

Stramash at the Edinburgh Book Festival – August 17th, 8.30pm

I’ve written it in the title now, so there’s not much else to say.

I’ll be appearing alongside Stuart Donald, author of On Fire With Fergie: Me, My Dad and the Dons (‘a magnificent read’ – Sunday Herald). It could be the only event at this year’s festival featuring mention of Albion Rovers, unless Polly Toynbee goes off on one about Vic Kasule again.

Here’s a link with more details and, should you be feeling reckless, a ‘buy tickets’ option. Go on; it’ll be a good ‘un: Edinburgh International Book Festival website

The Edinburgh Book Festival logo. I bet they argued about that comma for ages.

Leith Festival event – June 16th

Get thee down to The Parlour, Duke Street, on Thursday June 16th at 7pm for a Stramash-shaped hour of entertainment that absolutely no-one is talking about.

First up, I’ll bleat about smalltown Scotland and pause to guilt the audience into laughing at what I deem to be funny bits. Later Mr William Gould of The Leither will vex me with questions, before we open up for stony silence in the shape of a Q&A section.

Stramash: The Reprint

With so many unwanted book vouchers going spare these days, it was almost inevitable that Stramash would sell enough copies to merit a reprint. Meet the new book/same as the old book*.

*Except for praise-shaped quotes on the covers and inside, and precisely 10 corrections. So, really worth buying even if you have the first print.

Stramash at Aye Write – March 8th, 7.30pm, Mitchell Library Glasgow

I’m looking forward to doing a Stramash event at Glasgow’s Aye Write festival, and not only because the Aye Write Green Room usually has particularly good biscuits.

When I’ve finished chewing on the custard creams, I’ll be speaking, attempting to answer questions and making poorly received jokes alongside Stuart Donald and Rob Robertson.

Stuart wrote the outstanding On Fire With Fergie, while Rob co-authored another stellar book, The Management: Scotland’s Great Football Bosses, with Michael Grant, chair of our event.

Tickets are still available; snap them up so I can make a joke about not knowing what hotcakes are. Here’s the Aye Write link: Aye, alright then

Stramash launches imminent: author in Midget Gem meltdown

The proper Midget Gems are in. Pies with especially dubious fillings have been sourced just to annoy people who read Observer Food Monthly. It’s launch time (like lunch time, but with slightly more tepid white wine).

The book's called 'Stramash', in case you were wondering.

Tomorrow, Friday November 19th, the venue is Riddles Court, 322 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

Then next Thursday 25th, we move to Glasgow and the Iron Horse Bar, 115 West Nile Street, 5.30pm until 7.30pm.

Whoever you are (unless you are Ron Atkinson, Danny Alexander MP or Nick Tilsley from Corrie), please join me/us.

Stramash at the Edinburgh Independent Radical Book Fair

Sunday October 31st. 1.15pm, Out of the Blue Drill Hall, Dalmeny Street

Rouse from your hangover. Come and hear a few – potentially amusing and informative – words about Scotland’s nether regions, followed by a discussion with Carol Craig .

If the delivery driver puts out his fag and shakes a leg, it might just be the first place from which to buy copies of Stramash*.
